Testimonials from Schools

Martin Broom, Subject Leader of PE – Co-ordinator and Management of CPD Bishop Barrington School

‘Bishop Barrington PE department have visited the centre on an annual basis over the last 6 years, bringing groups of predominantly GCSE PE groups to complete their bouldering assessment. The centre has fantastic facilities with very friendly, skilful and helpful staff, which have helped secure fantastic outcomes for all. I would have no reservation recommending the centre to any school or community group’.

Andy Woodward, Sports Coach: Durham High School for Girls

Durham High School for Girls has been a regular user of Durham City Climbing Centre since it’s opening. We have used the centre for both PE lessons, after school clubs and for Holiday activity camps.

The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and provide activities that help

Individuals to develop at their own pace as well as catering for the more adventurous and capable.

I would recommend the centre to anyone wishing to experience bouldering.

Bouldering is an easily accessible style of climbing done close to the ground without the use of ropes and harnesses.  The sport can provide a new, shared experience. Bouldering is a competitive sport that can increase confidence by providing a sense of accomplishment as new skills are learned and practiced.  Progression can be quick when the correct skills and techniques are used. Problem solving is required to work out sequences of moves before attempting a problem.  Participants are physically active for a long period of time.  Minimal equipment is required for bouldering. Without the use of ropes and harnesses, all participants are encouraged to climb at the same time whilst lending support and encouragement to other climbers. Bouldering can be physically demanding, however participants with no experience of climbing and lower levels of physical fitness can build confidence and skills through bouldering sessions at Durham Climbing Centre.
