The industrial unit was formerly a conservatory showroom and warehouse until it was transformed over the Summer of 2007 into a bright and friendly centre of excellence in bouldering.

The range of facilities on offer include dedicated adult and junior areas, world class routesetting, stylish chill out coffee lounge, complimentary table tennis for members, changing rooms and ample free car parking.

 Construction
Phase One: Work begins in the empty building with the arrival of the steel.

The Steel is up and the design of the climbing structure can take place.

Kev fixes the steel together to form a frame for the five hundred plywood sheets which make up the climbing surface!

Phase Two: The 'Volcano'...

The highball inverted 'volcano' is an instantly recognisable three sided structure featuring 25°, 35° and 45° overhangs.  The unique structure was the inspiration behind our logo!

With climbing on both sides and housing the 'volcano', the tunnel links up to the main advanced bouldering room.

Phase 5: Junior Climbing Area & Coffee Lounge

The old conservatory showroom became the junior climbing area and coffee lounge.

The Junior Climbing Wall begins to take shape - more barrels and an overhang for beginners and kid's to try out.  A lower wall height appeals to younger children and beginners.

img_2679_[640x480].jpgDedicated Junior and Advanced climbing areas mean every level of climber is catered for from beginner to very advanced.

The junior climbing wall caters for children from 3 years up to adult beginners.  Junior climbers use the wall under parents supervision while they watch from the coffee lounge or during children's clubs, kid's parties or School and Scout groups.

Phase Six: Sanding!

Each screw hole, crack, imperfection or uneven join must be filled
and sanded before the friction finish can be sprayed onto the walls.

Thats one hundred and sixty thousand screws, five hundred plywood sheets, and forty thousand T Nuts!

tunnel_4_[640x480].jpgIn total it took four people almost three weeks to fill and sand all five hundred boards!

 Phase Seven: Finishing Touches

 mat_&_paint.jpg
After painting, all climbing areas are equipped with state of the art crash mats and the best selection of climbing holds on the market to make the experience as realistic and enjoyable as possible.

Matting covers the entire advanced bouldering area!  In the whole centre there is over two hundred square meters of matting alone!

A unique colour coded problem system makes it easy for climbers to identify easy and difficult climbs which can be worked at.  Alongside this colour coded system each climb is individually graded according to difficulty. See Route Setting for more info.

An everchanging array of over 180 different climbs changed every 4 - 8 weeks mean the centre is constantly evolving leaving no time for boredom as the next set of new problems arrives.  See Route Setting for more info.
