Durham Climbing Centre hosted our 5th Annual Summer Fun Day on Sunday 14th July. The event was packed full of activities including climbing taster sessions for just £5! Our team of instructors spent the day showing groups around the centre and teaching all the basic tools you need to get started.
DJ Sam kept the music flowing, as he greeted everyone on arrival from his stall outside. Everyone was excited to see Libby the Children’s Entertainer to get their faces painted, even DCC staff! Balloon modelling was very popular along with the fantastic inflatable fun run!
Lee and David took charge of the ever popular DCC grill! Lee kept the BBQ going all day, a big thank you to him as chef and David as top bun butterer!
The centre came to life when Sophie arrived with the reptile zoo! The children were mesmerised talking about the animals and holding some of them – even snakes! A mini competition was held for children to pick the tortoises names – thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
The 4 names picked out came from Thomas Dumble with ‘Titch’, Isobel Veide with ‘Torty’, Thomas Park with ‘Timothy’ and Ann Park with ‘Rupert’. Thank you to everyone who got involved and well done to the winners!
Our Tarot Card reader Adele of Hope Springs Holistic Healthcare offered Tarot Readings in our private function room. Tarot reading revolves around the belief that the cards can be used to gain an insight into the past, current and possible future situations of the subject. We will soon be starting Thursday Tarot Day sessions with an introductory rate – keep posted for this!
Throughout the day, we raised money for Climbers Against Cancer (CAC). We had a ‘Guess the Holds’ competition – that’s the number of climbing holds on the wall in the whole centre! All participants donated £1 to enter with all proceeds going to CAC. Our winner Alex Gilmore was the closest to the answer; 2363 holds!
Bethany and Richard ran the ‘Quick Draw Cowboy’ competition which was very very popular with children and parents! All participants donated £1 and our winner was Bethany Walton who also donated her prize, a chalk bag to CAC.
Everyone had a fantastic day and enjoyed it all. So to finish it off we had a raffle with various different prizes donated from Durham Climbing Centre itself and many local businesses. Children here on the day picked out the winning tickets. The star prize, an Annual Family Pass for DCC worth £680 was kindly donated back into the raffle by winner Libby. So it was decided that a Fun Run race on the bouncy castle would determine the winner! All the children took it in turns to complete a timed trial resulting in a tie between Josh Sangster and Nicholas Royle. Josh and Nicholas completed a final race on the Fun Run with a whisker between them as Nicholas just touched down on the crash mat ahead of Josh. Well done boys!
Keep posted for official photos from the event!
