Youth Boulder Ladder Award Ceremony

What a buzzing atmosphere yesterday at Durham Climbing Centre for the Youth Boulder Ladder Award Ceremony! Most of the podium winners came along to collect their medals, certificates and prizes as well as runner ups in each category. Route Setter James Hunter laid on a new orange circuit which juniors enjoyed trying prior to collecting their awards.

Within the new 23 problem orange set from James Hunter, one problem in particular on the front of the cave kept everyone working hard as many juniors failed to make it up to the black volume. Eventually Cayla, Jonah, Thomas and Joseph all cracked this one. Everyone completed most of the problems in the junior area. As part of the orange problem set in the junior area, the fourth climb was particularly tricky for several junior competitors, however Felix and Freja Halsius were able to persevere and accomplish this longer reach climb!

The goody packed raffle included lots of fantastic prizes including Jake Hillcoat Oriental Museum tickets; Jonah won a Frisbee and picked up a chalk ball for Daniel Colledge. Lots of other prizes were given away to our jolly young climbers. Round 5 raffle winner Felix won a pair of Boreal Ninja just for taking part! DCC Weekend Assistant Megan Hunter kept up with everyone’s requests for teas and coffees and made time to collect a certificate of attendance for herself and a prize in the raffle!

All participants have worked hard all summer, with each round lasting for 3 weeks in order to gain as many points possible. The competitors have worked extremely hard to gain the best possible scores and the fun packed final was their day to be rewarded and for their achievements to be recognised by everyone.

There were special awards presented for outstanding achievement to Peter McGrother for coming in very close 4th position just missing out on a podium place by 1 point! Also receiving a special achievement Award was Cayla Davies for recording the fastest time in the hoop traverse trial. A big shout out to Adam Sangster, who through incredible determination and hard work was able to flash numerous climbs in the junior and advanced areas. Well-done Adam! Every single junior taking part in this years event deserves a mention as their efforts have by no means gone unnoticed and we hope everyone has enjoyed taking part in the competition.

A big well done from all the staff at DCC we hope to see you competing again this winter in the Junior Winter Seriesstarting Friday 25th October!
