Route setting & circuits update

Since the Summer Boulder Ladder competition started on 1st July, we have added a total of 218 new problems with 25 more new whites coming up this Friday! SBL Competition sponsors SCARPA have given us 10 new Scarpa volumes with superb friction to further enhance the quality of our problems. This summer, we are donating competition proceeds to Climbers Against Cancer. We have purchased CAC finishing holds in 10 colours to mark out CAC coffee challenges in each round.

Alongside our regular route setters Paul Carruthers and James Hunter, we have hosted Eden Rock’s setting team Mickey Stainthorpe and Rich Lanham twice this Summer and this Friday we introduce a new international setter Michele Marcolla. Michele is a qualified and experienced route setter in his native Venice, Italy and a former member of the Italian National Speed Climbing Team.

The recent blue circuit set on 5th August has been tweaked this week – making it much easier and more inline with the easy grade range F4 – F5.

There are currently 4 competition circuits up graded from F4 – F7c. Within these circuits there are a full range of problems for all abilities so make sure even if you’re not taking part in the comp you give them a go. You will not find any grading sheets for these circuits until after the round is finished, so we have cleverly added some of these climbs to the stand alone Beginner Circuit – a set of problems individually picked by our coaches which include all colours.

Within these circuits are a selection of easy, mid and hard range problems. There are no grading sheets available for these circuits. See ‘Easy Circuit – Mixed Colours’ for a hand-picked selection of easier problems from these circuits.

Each competition circuit consists of 35 problems; 25 in the advanced area + 10 in the junior area. To take part in the competition, please purchase a scorecard for each round from reception.
