Our taster sessions are perfect for first-time climbers. This beginner induction sets you up with the basics, whether you’re looking for a fun day out or the start of a new hobby.
You’ll get 30 minutes of coaching, covering warm-ups and essential climbing skills, followed by unlimited climbing. Shoe hire and chalk are included.
Want to start your climbing journey as a family? Well our family climbing sessions are a compulsory taster of everything you need to know to start climbing! Whether you want to get serious about climbing or are looking for a fun day out, a beginner taster session at Durham Climbing Centre is the perfect way to get started. The taster session includes 30 minutes coaching where you will learn the importance of warming up alongside basic skills and techniques in climbing. Then after this you can climb as long as you wish! The session includes shoe hire and chalk hire.
Want a bit of help with your technique? Our friendly climbing coaches are on hand to offer free advice and tips! Whether its skills and techniques, route reading, training or anything else you need, we’ve got you covered. These casual sessions are a great way to get to know our coaches so feel free to come along! Coaching is completely free, just pay your normal entry fee.

How to book
Book onto a week night Adult Climbing Session and we will see you there!
Please book online for each coaching session — spaces are limited.
If you can’t make a session you’ve booked, let us know as soon as you can.
Tell your instructor about any medical conditions before the session starts.
Arrive 5 minutes early so you’ve got time to get climbing shoes on and fill in any forms.
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in — long sleeves and trousers work best.
Bring your own climbing shoes or hire a pair from us.
Only climbing shoes are allowed on the mats.
No bare feet on the walls, please.
No food or drinks on the mats.
Lockers are available — bring a padlock or grab one at reception.
The centre is covered by CCTV for everyone’s safety.
